Through The Woods

A game by Jasmine Mitchell; designer of the layout of the levels, look of the environment, and curator of assets.

Hurry to Grandma's house while running from the big bad wolf! Along the way, you must collect goodies to deliver to Grandma. Travel through 3 areas/levels of the forest while carefully avoiding obstacles. If the wolf catches you, it's game over!

Press Space to jump

N to restart the level

The game runs best if NOT in fullscreen

The goal of the project was to create an on-rails game with a cohesive art style and narrative. I was inspired by Little Red Riding Hood and tried to capture the unsettling essence of that story.

After importing the base code from Michael Baker, I began white boxing the layout of the levels. Once that was complete, I imported and modified the assets from various packs, carefully arranging them to create the various forest environments.

One of the biggest challenges I had was working with the colliders; oftentimes, the player or The Wolf would get stuck on terrain. With trial and error, I was able to get the player and The Wolf's pathing to go relatively smoothly. Additionally, as the player has little control over their movement, I was constantly trying to innovate and make sure that the flow of the game was exciting for the player. While doing this, I had to ensure that the game wasn't too difficult or frustrating; what the developer may see as a challenging jump may be viewed as excruciating to the player.
